KOHIMA: Nagaland governor PB Acharya has asked universities across the country to start a Ne department or Chair to teach tribal dialects of the northeast. The universities he has already approached are Mumbai University, SNDT Women University, Mumbai, Dr Babasahib Ambedkar Technical University, Maharashtra, NITTE Medical & Science University, Mangaluru, Alva's Education Foundation, Mangaluru, Manipal University, Mangaluru and JNU.

The universities have requested the governor to nominate guest teachers who can teach at least two northeast dialects for their NE department. Acharya has, therefore, has appealed to the people of Nagaland, especially retired teachers, to come forward for to be a part of the NE departments of different universities in the country. Selected persons will have to go to Mumbai, Mangaluru or Delhi, with the universities providing accommodation and honorarium for their services . TNN
